(Lorca + Almodovar) x (Inma Bernils + María Ferrara) = Las Tías [las ‘ti as]

An experimental score for real-time composition with bodies, voices, household utensils and domestic stuff. Surrealist costumbrism inspired by Lorca’s “Bernarda Alba”, Almodovar’s “Volver”and the older generation of women in traditional rural Spain.

Inma and I are both Spanish. In this performance we worked with objects, activities and attitudes that we have both grown up with. We reappropriated this heritage and sampled it with our bodies to generate an irreverent portrait of our roots. Allowing ourselves the freedom to do things our way, we reconciled ourselves with elements of our culture and discovered our personal connection to them.
